Anonymous Coward User ID: 1514077 04/20/2012 03:11 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I am working with steel diamond plate and need to take off the diamonds on several plates about one inch in from the edge of the sheet. I wanted a clean look, so I only need to go down far enough until the diamond is gone and it is smooth. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1018748 The closest I can come to my own machine, and without a mill machine, is somehow take a bench table grinder and set it up where it has a table and fence style set up, where I can put the plate of diamond against the fence, with the rotation of the grinder towards me, adjusting the table so that only about an inch of the edge of the plate will go under the grinding wheel and slowly push the plate into (below) the grinding wheel taking the diamond off in small increments. Unless someone has a better idea? Also, any thought on how to make the base for the grinder or table itself? Should the grinder be fixed and the table adjust for width and height? Thanks! So you want to reinvent the hand held grinder ... |

Do not do what you have in mind. You will hurt yourself. A grinder has a lot of torque and as soon as the disk gets clogged up its going to stick and throw the metal, and more then likely cutting you pretty bad or really messing up your metal. Don't try and reinvent the wheel just take your time and grind it down by hand. If you want a clean look tape off the flat part of the metal that you don't want to mess up and grind down the diamond. |

This might work honestly if you set it up right to take of the required amount. |

Or on a REAL surface grinder. Wouldn't want a piece of metal flying into my stomach... |
