CoffeeGeek - Lelit PL 043 Compact Coffee Grinder - Jennifer ...

We purchased our LELIT PL043 Grinder on December 28, 2010.  On December 14, 2011 our grinder coughed on a bean and died.  We attempted to follow the manufacturer instructions to access the burrs and clean them to determine if it was a simple fix, and the incredibly cheap and wafer thin plastic lever snapped off at a gentle touch.  We contacted LELIT on the same day, and received NO response.  We contacted them again, finally using Google Translate to send a message to the headquarters in Italy regarding our dissatisfaction with the product and a request for help - fully expecting them to honor the warranty.

Message received today stated that because we attempted to access the burrs and the (I'll say it again) incredibly cheap plastic snapped, we voided the warranty but they would be happy to SELL us a replacement, as long as we also paid for the shipping.  How incredibly generous!

Actual function of the grinder was mediocre.  It definitely gives a fine grind, but due to the plastic housing throughout, and plastic chute, your grinds are loaded with static explode all over the kitchen, your arms, your clothes, and rarely exactly where you expect into whatever hopper you can wedge beneath the chute.  Contrary to what you're led to believe prior to purchasing, there is no simple cup or measurer that fits the two (CHEAP) plastic prongs, and even if there were such a container, it exacerbate the static issue as you need to fully cover the descending chute to keep your grounds contained.

Absolutely one of the worst products we were suckered into buying.  Completely astonished that this is manufactured in Italy, considering the price and extremely poor quality, and extremely poor customer service.

We have replaced our grinder with a (gasp) Manual old fashioned burr grinder that does a fantastic job, and has zero static.  I can grind enough beans for 8-strong cups of coffee using our coffee press in about 3-minutes of easy grinding.  We won't be throwing good money after bad in regards to our Lelit grinder - if we can't fix it ourselves at this point, it's on its way to the dump.  What a waste!
