Why Buy a Manual Coffee Grinder?

One of life’s great pleasures is a hot cup of coffee on the table in front of you, teasing you with wisps of fragrant steam. only one step removed from that is the pleasure of making the coffee, including grinding your own beans with a manual coffee grinder. Most people seem to prefer dumping a bunch of beans in an electric grinder, and pushing a button, or even just scooping ready-ground coffee from a can. they don’t understand the hedonistic enjoyment of measuring the dark, aromatic beans into the hopper, and slowly turning the crank to produce those delicious grounds. Most hand coffee grinders have the option of a coarse grind to a very fine grind, depending on what type of coffee you are making that day.

Manual coffee grinders are not as easily available as electric ones, and are not to be found in most chain stores. However, there are several good sites on the internet where you will find a good selection in a variety of prices. Amazon.com has them starting as low as $19, and going on up to $255. The excellent German-crafted Zassenhaus brand comes in several models, including one that is made to be held between the knees. these are in the mid-range price, running from about $70 to $105, but they are handsomely crafted for lasting quality. they could even be passed on to family as heirlooms.

A manual coffee grinder, perhaps accompanied with a pound of gourmet coffee beans, makes a wonderful gift for any occasion for a coffee lover. For a wedding, birthday graduation, house-warming, or what-have-you, nothing says I love you like a gift of coffee.
