By the way, it’s on. Check the banner to your right, click on it, and it will take you to the registration page.
This is the 5th year, and it will be a Gravel Grinder like no other. I’ve partnered up with some fokls that will ensure that it is the most amazing event on 2 wheels held in VT in April. More details will follow, but seriously, register. This event always sells out, and should you miss the boat, then you’ve missed the boat. There is no waiting list, there is no extra t-shirt.
New folks will want to know that you can expect be on your bike between 1.5-4 hours depending on how quick/fit you are. Or 2-5 depending on the course I set. A lot of that has to do with the weather and snowmelt, but at this rate, adventure is a word you should be prepared to deal with. The course has traditionally been around 30 miles with 3000ft of elevation gain.
I will be posting updates here on the course and conditions as we go. I normally wait until a week before the ride to post the final route, because on a ride like this, I don’t believe pre-riding the course is OK. It’s not a race. Sure, there will be fast dudes out there, but they will (and always have) miss out on the fun stuff, just to the side of the road.
I’m pre-ridng/mapping the course on Kermit. He needs a break from his sedentary lifestyle. We took a trip up Perry Hill, which unfortunately will still be the first hill of the ride. Since I lost my Garmin, I have resorted to using a Strava app on my iPhone.
This tells me nothing except that someone else has ridden the Perry Hill climb 4 minutes faster than me in June 2011, no doubt some skinny fast guy on a bike with gears. Despite this electronic beat down, I feel that I did OK considering it’s February, and I was riding a singlespeed, and I probably have 50 lbs on him.
All heckling aside, the Strava app will be replacing my Garmin until I win the lottery, or I can afford to replace it.
