With a bit of tweaking, the grinder can give a very fine grind, for excellent shot results; as well as being able to do drip and french press.
If you are willing to take it apart, and give it a little extra twist, this grinder can do a very good grind for espresso. Matches well with the Francis Francis X3, for great value in small kitchen, to pull luscious yummy shots with plenty of Crema.
It doesn't have a doser, and an easy way of putting a portafilter under the grinder.
I needed a grinder, to take my shots to the next level. The fresh ground bean from the London coffee roasters was good. However, I seemed to be losing a lot especially after a few days. I wanted that cafe fresh taste and experience. I also wanted better crema for latte art.
Looking around, I found the starbucks grinder (Solis rebadge) as being both affordable (2nd hand on ebay), and useful, if someone were willing to doing some tweaking.
I took it apart, gave it a bit of a twist, and voila... pulling yummy thick headed shots from both my Gaggia, and Francis Francis X3. Would definitely recommend for the intermediate to advanced on budget who needs a grinder that can do a finer grind.
The other nice part, is that since you have just made it so it can do a bit finer grinder, as the grinder coarseness varies by turning the hopper, you can always give it a twist to grind for drip and french press.
I bought it off someone on ebay, who was happy to get rid of it. The box was sunbleached and the Grinder looked shiny new on the outside, with some bean dust on the inside, as if it had been tried once, and then not again. Tried to get one for a friend, though, and they seem harder to come by now on ebay. Maybe because they are a great value.
