Alright so, you’re probably wondering what in the world a painting company blogging about a small angle grinder for. But a small angle grinder is a very useful tool to have. Now while saying that I’ll be the first till you a paint contractor shouldn’t carry this tool with them all the time. But that said there are some really useful purposes for it. This review is on the Milwaukee 7.0 Amp 4-1/2” Small Angle Grinder.
Well granted this Milwaukee grinder isn’t a tool you would use every day it does have some really useful purposes. One useful purpose of this tool is keeping your utility trailer rust free. If you have recently purchased a utility trailer which was left outside and has some signs of rust, you can correct this by taking the grinder lightly to the rust covered area. Then clean and spray it with some Restoleum to prevent it from continuing to rust. Now we recently were able to take a trailer jack off that one of our customers had that was damaged. Not only did it do a great job, but it also made the customer extremely happy and egar to refer us. Another reason you should add the Milwaukee small grinder to your tool chest is its ability to clear bad-looking wood. Now if you have been painting as long as we have, you understand the power of a grinder on wood, but gently going over an area of wood that has been previously scrapped poorly can be a lot faster. Now, granted this particular grinder does not have variable speed but apparently with a variable speed grinder one can wax their car twice a year. But be careful the power this tool has is ridiculous, so used incorrectly could really damage your paint job.
Tool Review
So what’s our take on the Milwaukee 7 amp Small Angle Grinder 61030-33? We purchased ours at Home Depot with a five-year manufactures warranty. It was only $59.00 which was a little more than similar grinders in its class. What strayed us away from the Ryobi and the Dewalt was the number of Amps and the weight of grinder. The Ryobi was significantly cheaper with just 4 amps. We like Ryobi because they are reliable and affordable. The Dewalt grinder was 7 amps but was about a 1/3 of a pound heavier. Though a third of a pound is not a lot it is best to go lighter than heavier when dealing with older wood. The tool requires the use of a wrench to release the 5/8 auger and wheel. But it is simple enough anyone should be able to reposition the wheel or wheel guard. It easily allows the use of 1/8 inch wheels with the reversal of the end nut. What we didn’t like that much was the placement of the on/off switch. Its location is close to the wheel and with the wheel guard reversed it is verily close to your hand which is dangerous. But the convenience of the on switch lock was really nice. It allows for prolonged use of the grinder with having to place your hand near the wheel. We decided not to use the manufactures wheel because they usually burn out fast and replacing it with a $3 Diablo grinding wheel was well worth it.
